Senior cop's 6-year-old daughter dies in motorcycle accident along MRR2

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior police officer was seriously injured while his six year old daughter died after their motorcycle was involved in a traffic accident along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) highway today.

In the 8.50am accident, the senior policeman, 42, and his daughter, who was riding pillion, had collided with the rear of a Mitsubishi Xpander MPV.

City Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh, said the MPV was moving straight on the left lane when the collision occurred.

Traffic, he said, was slow-moving at the time.

"As a result of the collision, both father and daughter fell onto the road," he said in a statement.

Sarifudin said the cop and his daughter were rushed to the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) for medical attention.

"The girl died while receiving treatment. Her father, meanwhile, broke both his arms," he said.

The MPV driver, a 45-year-old woman, was unhurt.

It is understood that the senior police officer is attached to the Cheras district police headquarters.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Sarifudin said those with information on the incident can contact the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee police station at 03-2071 9999 or the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Investigation Department's hotline at 03-20260267/69, or any nearby police station to aid the investigation.
