Anwar urges Muslims to reflect on Israk Mikraj lessons and stand in solidarity with Palestinians

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the lessons of Israk Mikraj remain pertinent and should be upheld to promote vigilance and drive transformation within the Muslim community.

Reflecting on the extraordinary privilege granted to Prophet Muhammad during his journey, Anwar highlighted its relevance to the current plight of the Palestinian people.

Anwar said that Jerusalem, being the site of the Prophet's miraculous journey to heaven, is situated in Palestine.

In conjunction with Israk Mikraj tomorrow, Anwar, in a Facebook post today, called for united efforts to uphold justice, starting from individual reflection to societal equity.

"Free Al-Quds! Free Palestine! May tyranny be eradicated and the community be protected.

"The Prophet Muhammad was granted privilege when he was taken to traverse the night sky to receive new commandments, especially since this journey followed the loss of his beloved wife Khadijah and his uncle Abu Talib.

"While the journey of Isra and Mikraj strengthens faith in his prophethood, it also reveals 1001 lessons concerning matters of faith and morality for a servant.

"Hence, its lessons are almost indispensable throughout time.

"As a result, believers are required to be steadfast in establishing the five daily prayers, showing compassion and generosity towards the needy, and shunning falsehood and greed," Anwar said, adding that these are prerequisites for elevating the revival and progress of the nation," he said.

The Israk Mikraj event finalises the mandatory five-times-a-day prayers for Muslims, whereby Prophet Muhammad personally witnessed the greatness of Allah.

It took place a year before the Prophet migrated to Madinah from Makkah, which then became the model of Islamic administration, which was successful in spreading Islam and developing harmonious inter-religious relations.
