Outcome of public remuneration scheme review expected this year

MELAKA: The outcome of the review on the public remuneration scheme is expected to be announced by third or fourth quarter of this year, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

The Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister gave the assurance when he said such a process should be expedited for the wellbeing of civil servants in the country.

"There were grouses on the (period of the) review since it has been 12 years… (Throughout that period) there has been no adjustment to the rate of the salary.

"Last year I gave my assurance (that there will be a review on the scheme). And on this stage here today, I want the process (of the review) to be expedited," Anwar said in his speech during an event with civil servants in the state here.

He added that he hoped that the outcome of the review on the scheme could be presented in the Cabinet within the next three months.

"And after that we will reveal the outcome… Perhaps during the third or fourth quarters of this year," he said.

During an event in Putrajaya last year, Anwar Ibrahim wanted a drastic improvement to the public service remuneration scheme.

The improvement, he had said, should reflect the changes in the present economic situation of the country.

Anwar added that the review of the remuneration scheme demanded not only significant change but also a paradigm shift following the change in the country's economic landscape, as well as to recognise the contribution of the public sector towards the national development agenda.
