10 motorcyclists detained in KL-Seremban operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts on the road were detained in a road safety operation at the Kuala Lumpur - Seremban Highway (Plus) and Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas), early this morning.

Federal Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the road safety operation led by two officers and 15 personnel from the Intelligence/Operation Unit was mainly to curb street thug activities on the highway and reduce risk of accidents.

He said the operation which started at 10.30pm on Friday and ended at about 4am today saw 10 men age between 17 and 23 years old arrested for riding their motorcycles recklessly at two separate locations.

"In the first arrest on the Kuala Lumpur - Seremban Highway (Plus) at 12.15am, the team arrested two individuals for performing dangerous stunts, namely the 'Superman' stunt along the Kuala Lumpur - Seremban Highway (Plus) from KM 284 to KM 276, southbound.

The two were detained near the Uncle Red Restaurant in Seremban 3," he said.

Meanwhile in the second incident at about 1.45am, a group of eight men were also spotted doing the 'Superman' while riding their machines along the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) between KM 21 to KM 19, in the direction towards Kuala Lumpur.

"They were followed to the Syed Maju Restaurant at Pusat Perniagaan DGalla on Jalan Nilai Pajam, before they were detained and brought to Nilai traffic police station for further investigation," Azman said adding that the suspect's motorcycles including a Yamaha Y15ZR, Yamaha Y16ZR, Yamaha 135 LC, and Yamaha 125Z were also seized.

He said all ten detained will be investigated under

Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

"Police also issued 48 summonses for various other traffic offences throughout the five-and-half hours operation.

Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect's were not linked to any motorcycle gangs.

"They are just bikers who lived around Port Dickson, Senawang and Semenyih, who regularly used the both highways to get to some eateries located in Seremban 3, as well as Nilai," he added.

Azman also reminded road users, especially motorcyclists to be careful and cautious on the road, as reckless or dangerous driving is a serious offence under the law.

"We also will not compromise with anyone found to be involved in such illegal activities that could put themselves as well as other road users lives at risk," he said.

Similar ad-hoc operations are also expected to be carried out nationwide by all district police throughout this Chinese New Year holiday season.
