69 motorbikes confiscated in op against 'street thugs'

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police confiscated 69 motorcycles and issued 265 summonses to motorcyclists in an operation against 'street thugs' in Lebuh Ismail Sultan, here, in the wee hours of this morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the operation carried out between midnight and 5am today saw 226 motorcyclists and their pillion riders' documents checked, while 223 motorbikes were inspected.

Police impounded 69 motorbikes for various offences under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Rahmat said during the integrated operation, two men in their 20s were arrested to facilitate investigations under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

'Street thugs' or street gangsters refers to motorcyclists engaging in illegal racing or dangerous stunts, or behaving aggressively on the roads in a manner that jeopardises other road users.
