OKU student killed in motorcycle-car crash

MELAKA: A school student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on Jalan Klebang Besar, around 2.30am yesterday.

The victim, Muhammad Faizal Yahaya, 17, who is also a person with learning disabilities (OKU), was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

Melaka Tengah police chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the initial investigation results indicated that the accident occurred when the victim, riding a Yamaha 135LC, was travelling from Klebang towards Batang Tiga.

"Upon arrival at the location, the victim's motorcycle is believed to have entered the opposing lane and collided with a Toyota Vios driven by a 35-year-old man who was unable to avoid it.

"As a result, the victim died at the scene due to the injuries he suffered, while the car driver was uninjured," he said when contacted here.

He said the body of the student from SMK Rahmat, Kuala Sungai Baru, Masjid Tanah, was taken to the Melaka Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination, while the vehicle involved was sent to the computerised vehicle inspection centre for further examination.

"The police are also tracing witnesses to the incident to assist in the investigation, and a Pol.61 notice has been issued to determine the cause of death.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
