Day 4 of Op Selamat 21 sees 14 deaths, 1203 accidents nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Day four of Op Selamat 21, carried out over the Chinese New Year weekend, recorded 14 deaths due to fatal accidents nationwide yesterday.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department in a statement indicated that a total of 1,203 accident cases were recorded nationwide.

The same statistics also showed 1,480 vehicles involved in accidents.

Op Selamat 21 is being carried out nationwide starting last Thursday until tomorrow in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive period.

The police also collaborated with strategic partners; Plus Malaysia Berhad (Plus), the Malaysian Highway Authority, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Road Transport Department (RTD), and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, was reported to have said that Op Selamat for this edition maintains the theme 'Safe Home, Safe Arrival at Destination,' with two main objectives, namely to minimise road accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow, and to prevent house break-ins throughout the festive season.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department is also assisted by the Drone Unit of the Police Air Operations Force in conducting aerial monitoring in three main zones, namely the Northern, Southern, and Eastern zones.
