Boy crushed to death by collapsed wall at home

BALING: An eight-year-old boy died after a brick wall fell on him in Kampung Padang Lalang Besah, Mukim Tawar, Kuala Ketil, yesterday.

In the 10.30am incident, the victim is believed to have died while en route to Klinik Kesihatan Tawar.

Baling district police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat said the police received a call regarding the incident from the medical officer of the clinic at noon.

He said the victim's father was informed by his wife of the incident which took place in the renovation area of the home's kitchen.

"At the time of incident, the 39-year-old father was working at a factory here, while the mother of the child was cooking in the kitchen.

"She had earlier warned and advised her two children several times not to play around the site of construction works to expand the kitchen area being built by their father," he said when contacted today.

Shamsudin said the mother heard a loud noise around 10.30am before discovering the victim's body under the structure.

"The victim's younger sibling was also hit by the same brick wall behind, but only suffered minor injuries.

"The mother then sought help from neighbours to take both of her children to Klinik Kesihatan Tawar.

"However, upon arriving at the clinic, the doctor confirmed that one of the children had died," he said.

Shamsudin said the victim's remains were sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's forensic department, Alor Star.

He said the parents have their statements recorded and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
