MACC open to probe more high profile cases if there's information

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has announced its willingness to investigate more high-profile corruption cases, including those from the past.

Its commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said MACC would do so if there are individuals coming forward with relevant information.

"Sometimes we (MACC) do not have access to certain information because the incidents happened a long time ago.

"We, the new generation, may not know about it. It is true that I may have lived during that time, but I was not involved in that system.

"(Now) action needs to be taken because it is my responsibility," he said during the Dialog TVS programne titled 'Integrity: Assessing Transparency'.

In another development, Azam said MACC is set to streamline its asset declaration process by removing a column from the declaration form.

This decision, approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to enhance practicality in the reporting process.

"The dropping of current value details is highly likely to be approved.

"Once the new mechanism for asset declaration forms is approved, it will be announced by the PM himself and displayed on the website," he said.
