Ratu Naga speaks out: Don't associate me with political games

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) political activist, Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, also known as the Ratu Naga, who was summoned to give a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, does not want to be associated with any political games.

Syarul Ema said she was called to the MACC office because there were attempts to link her with the political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

"Don't associate me with your political games, that's enough," she said in a video shared on TikTok.

Syarul Ema said when MACC officers came to her house yesterday, she assumed the investigation was related to two MACC reports she had previously made.

"I made two MACC reports on Jan 8 regarding the Pandora papers related to (Datuk Seri Dr) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and a report on Jan 15 against the prime minister.

"Throughout the investigation, I was not allowed to meet my lawyer, even though he was there," she said.

Syarul Ema said there were attempts to link her with Shamsul Iskandar but did not give details on the said allegation.

Speaking to The New Straits Times, her husband Ezad Zainal, 49, had confirmed that five officers, claiming to be from MACC raided the couple's house and took his wife to Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, reportedly said that Syarul Ema was not detained but only called in for questioning to assist in an investigation under Section 16 of the MACC Act.
