'I'm baffled... I have never been involved with terrorists'

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist Datuk Abu Bakar Abdul is baffled over being named by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigations as having links with terrorists.

The general manager of non-governmental organisation Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam said he was not aware that his name had been included in a list by the FBI's Terrorist Screening Centre (TSC).

He denied any possible involvement with terrorist groups.

"I was not informed directly (about it); (I) found out about it through friends and copies of the letter that had gone viral.

"I'm baffled as to how my name could be linked (to terrorists) because as far I know, I'm not involved with any quarters, individuals or groups labelled as terrorists, either in the country or abroad," he told Berita Harian.

Abu Bakar, who is one of three Malaysian leaders from different Islamic NGOs in the FBI list, said he had never sponsored or rendered any assistance or support to such groups.

He said he would seek more details through the Foreign Ministry on the matter.

It was reported that three Malaysian NGO leaders who are actively involved in managing aid to West Asia have been listed in the TSC by the FBI.

Following this, Wisma Putra directed the three not to be involved in Op Ihsan that oversees the delivery of humanitarian aid from Malaysia to Palestinians in Gaza.
