Albino beef cattle main attraction at Central Zone Madani Rakyat programme

KUALA SELANGOR: Beef cattle dubbed the Albino, which are among the five hybrid cattle breeds weighing between 1,000 and 1,400 kilogrammes (kg), stole the limelight at the Central Zone MADANI Rakyat programme at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex.

Beef cattle breeder Ahmad Hasyir Hashim said many visitors called the cattle albino as it had white or fair skin with reddish hues as if it was an actual albino.

"Other beef cattle breeds brought to the programme include Brahman, Charolais, Blonde, Limousin and Belgium Blue, which are known for certain traits, such as being short, long and bulky bodies.

"Many breeders choose these breeds as the returns are way better, with sale prices reaching between RM5,000 and RM15,000 per head and they will be kept for a period of six months.

"Last year, we managed to sell four heads of cattle during Hari Raya Aidiladha as they yield a lot of meat and it has become the choice of locals during religious celebrations," he told Bernama here today.

Visitors were also attracted to the petting zoo, that offered many interesting animals, including snakes, parrots, rabbits and hybrid chickens such as Saga, American Silkie, Rhode Island Red (United States) and Sussex Cross Leghorn.

Visitor S Pavitra, 17, who came with her family was excited to see the huge hybrid beef cattle.

"This is the first time seeing such a big cow and now I know that these cows are hybrids of local cattle," she said.

Pet shop worker Nor Zarina Md Yusop, 34, meanwhile said that she and her children could not miss out on the opportunity to attend the programme after learning about the petting zoo.

"My seven-year-old and my nine-year-old were so happy when they were at the petting zoo booth as they really love animals, and I myself don't want to miss out on learning about the types of animals as I work in a pet shop that requires me to have a good knowledge of animals," she added.
