Malaysia's firm voice at ICJ receives support from various countries - Mohamad Hasan

REMBAU: Malaysia's strong stance regarding Israel's occupation of Palestine, as expressed through verbal statements at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), last Thursday, has garnered support from various countries.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia received support from the international community, including from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

A total of 52 countries were given the opportunity by the ICJ to voice their objections.

The participating countries expressed a unified condemnation of Israel's atrocities, he said.

He said action must be taken by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

"Malaysia has been able to firmly voice and condemn the atrocities of the Zionist regime of Israel, which illegally occupies Palestinian land.

"We have stated the direction that a lasting ceasefire should be achieved by implementing a two-state solution, where it is imperative that an independent Palestine is recognised and becomes a part of the international community and a member of the UN," he said.

He said this after presenting awards to the winners of the Mohamad Hasan cup community football championship at the Rembau Mini Stadium, here, this evening.

Mohamad, who is also the Rembau Member of Parliament said that although there were a small number of countries, two or three, expressing support for Israel, their voices were drowned out.

Therefore, he believed that the majority of countries that presented verbal statements at the ICJ shared the same views as Malaysia.

"We (Malaysia) have firmly voiced our position, and they (foreign countries) are pleased with our stance.

"At the UN recently, I also strongly expressed the view that the killings committed by the Zionist regime of Israel against the Palestinian people must be stopped immediately," he said.

Commenting further, Mohamad said the verbal statements at the ICJ on Feb 22 were related to Israel's conquest, which had constructed a wall around Gaza, besides proposing a resolution calling for Israel to withdraw and grant voice and independence to Palestine.

He said the next step would be to express support for South Africa's proposal regarding genocide, which refers to the mass killings of Palestinian people, including women and children.

"To date, around 31,000 people have been killed, excluding those who are missing, and according to the Palestinian foreign minister, approximately 7,000 people have been poked and detained, hidden in detention centres and so on.

"While nearly 100,000 people are injured, with severed limbs, and most of them are women and children.

"This is an atrocity that cannot be tolerated by anyone with a sane mind," he said.

Mohamad said Malaysia was the first country to support and express support for the proposal made by South Africa.

"The proposal regarding this genocide will be made in another session," he said.
