Zahid assures top commitment from govt MPs for Parliament sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today assured that the government would give its highest commitment for the Third Session of the 15th Parliament.

In a statement issued via Facebook today, Zahid who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister said the government members of Parliament (MPs) were fully ready to participate in a royal debate following the address given by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia during the opening ceremony, today.

"I attended the Parliament (opening ceremony) this morning and listened to the royal address by the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim in conjunction with the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament today.

"Together with the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and government MPs, we are fully prepared for the royal address debate which commences tomorrow and will provide a high commitment to this Parliament session, God willing," he said.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia graced the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament.

Also present was Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.

This is His Majesty's first time opening the Dewan Rakyat since being appointed as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January, this year.

His Majesty's arrival was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, both Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul as well as Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal.
