Saint Andrew Chapel in Batu Gong receives RM30,000 upgrade grant

SIBURAN: The Saint Andrew Chapel in Batu Gong has been allocated a RM30,000 grant under the Rural Minor Project (MRP) scheme, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Sarawak Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil encouraged community members to collaborate in supporting the chapel's upgrade efforts.

"Chapels and churches serve as vital gathering places for our community to strengthen bonds and foster spiritual development every week," he said during a fundraising dinner held in Siburan on Feb 24.

The grant aims to enhance the religious and community services provided by the Saint Andrew Chapel, making it a key religious centre for the Christian Iban community in the Batu Gong area.

Jerip, who is also the Mambong assemblyman, highlighted the unique position of Sarawak in having governmental support through the Unit for Other Religions.

This unit plays a crucial role in assisting the development of various religious institutions across the state.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Reverend Widos Pa'uh, Vicar Parish Saint Matthew George Harrison, and Siburan District Office representative John Anchat, showcasing the community and governmental support for enhancing religious and communal infrastructure.
