Five motorcyclists cheat death after colliding with one another and trailer

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Five motorcyclists were nearly killed after their motorcycles collided with each other before hitting a trailer along the same route in an incident at kilometre 132.4 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) here early yesterday morning.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief (SPT) ACP Helmi Aris said that based on preliminary investigations, the accident happened at 4 am yesterday involving five men, aged 19 to 34, each riding a motorcycle.

"At 11 am today, the police observed a 14-second video that went viral on social media depicting the road accident involving a trailer and several motorcycles. As a result of our investigation, we found that it occurred early yesterday morning," he said in a statement tonight.

"The accident is believed to have occurred when the five motorcyclists grazed each other on the road before being hit by the trailer travelling on the same route," he said.

He also said that the five motorcyclists are believed to have suffered minor injuries. Additionally, neither the trailer driver nor the motorcyclists have lodged police reports regarding the incident.

"The police are requesting the cooperation of the public who have information about or witnessed the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Information can be provided to the Traffic Branch of the SPT district police headquarters at 04-5301342 or the nearest police station," he added. - BERNAMA
