ALOR STAR: Former Kedah legislative assembly speaker Datuk Md Rozai Safian died yesterday at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here. He was 69.
His daughter, Aryssa Asyikin, confirmed her father's demise in a statement today.
"We regret to inform you that our father, Md Rozai Shafian, has died on February 26, at 11.40pm in the Cardiac Care Unit, Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
"We humbly request prayers from all family members, siblings, relatives, and acquaintances for our late father," she said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, Kedah Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the loss.
"Innalilahwainalillahirajiun, may the departed soul rest in peace among the believers," he added.
Md Rozai began his political career in 1996 with Umno, serving as Sungai Tiang assemblyman after clenching the state seat during the 10th Malaysian General Election in 1999.
In 2013, while serving as the Pendang Umno division chief, Md Rozai Safian was appointed as the state legislative assembly speaker.
Funeral prayers and proceedings for Md Rozai will be held at Masjid Al-Amin Muslim Cemetery in Pendang later today.
