Malaysia to continue to speak openly against Isreali regime's oppression

KUALA LUMPUR: Over the decades, Malaysia has been steadfastly speaking out over the oppression by the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine, and it will continue to do so.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan said this was reflected in the six demands pursued by the country in its efforts to emancipate the Palestinians from the grip of the Zionist regime.

Malaysia, he said, remains with its principles and approach in supporting the unconditional return of rights to the Palestinians from the unlawful occupation of Israel as well as the return of confiscated lands and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

"The country's stance (in the Palestinian cause) did not start on Oct 7 last year but it started when the people of Palestine was subjected to Israeli regime's oppression.

"Malaysia will continue to speak openly on six key demands including for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian assistance, cessation of Israeli settlement activities and violence against Palestinian civilians, and an immediate halt to the forcible transfer of Palestinian civilians.

"At the same time, Malaysia will continue to demand for investigations into all international law violations (by the Israel Defence Force) through international legal institutions, supporting the Arab Peace Initiative, pushing for two-state settlement negotiations based on pre-1967 borders, as well as combating the rise in Islamophobia," he said in a written reply published on the Parliament website last night.

The Rembau member of parliament was responding to a question from Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) who asked the government to explain its role in helping the people of Palestine from continuing to be oppressed by Israel.

Malaysia, he said, has been consistent in advocating for Palestinian human rights and this was reflected in the statements in bilateral and multilateral meetings issued by the country over the matter.

He said the ministry led by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Al-Amin, along with several MPs and senators, set foot in Rafah to show the world the support and solidarity of Malaysia for the people of Palestine.
