Malaysia strongly condemns attack by the Israeli regime during Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia unreservedly condemns Israel's continuous, indiscriminate and targeted attacks against Palestinians, including the recent airstrikes on the Al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement today, denounced the "barbaric and senseless acts" of the Israeli regime, which clearly exhibit their "disregard and culture of impunity," contradicting the principles of humanity, peace, and compassion symbolised by this holy occasion.

"Our hearts go out to the affected families as Malaysia stands firm against these acts of state-sponsored terrorism and genocide.

"Israel's continuous aggression will severely hamper the remaining prospects for a ceasefire and peaceful settlement of the conflict, and seriously call into question its intention, if any, for such an objective," the statement read.

Three of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh's sons were killed Wednesday in an Israeli strike in Gaza, the Palestinian leader and Israel's military said, as war rages on after more than six months, AFP reported.

According to Al Jazeera, a drone hit the family's car in the northern Gaza Strip's Al-Shati refugee camp.

AFP images showed Palestinians in Gaza City inspecting the badly damaged and charred vehicle.

The Foreign Ministry called on the the international community to take resolute and concrete actions to stop these atrocities and the man-made catastrophe in Gaza, and to hold accountable those responsible for such war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The United Nations Security Council, the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court must fulfil their responsibilities, the ministry said.

The ministry proposed that the Security Council consider establishing an international criminal tribunal to prosecute and bring to justice those responsible for such crimes.

"Malaysia remains resolute in its pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the longstanding conflict, which has claimed far too many lives and caused so much misery and destructions over the past 75 years.

"We firmly uphold the principle that Palestinians unequivocally deserve the establishment of their own independent and sovereign state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," the ministry added.

According to AFP, Haniyeh, who is based in Qatar, told Al Jazeera network that three of his sons and some of his grandchildren were killed when their car was hit.

The deadly strike came as there were no signs of progress in mediation efforts led by the United States, Egypt and Qatar, seeking a halt in the fighting.

A statement from Hamas later said four grandchildren were among those killed in the "treacherous and cowardly" strike, naming them as Mona, Amal, Khaled and Razan.

An Israeli military statement said its forces killed "three Hamas operatives" who were "on their way to carry out terrorist activities" in central Gaza, identifying them as Amir, Mohammed and Hazem Haniyeh.
