RXZ motorcycle gathering participant killed in Maran crash

MARAN: An RXZ Fighter motorcycle event participant was killed after crashing his machine into a metal barrier at KM166.6 of the East Coast Expressway near here today.

Night market operator Muhammad Lokman Abdul Aziz, 29, was killed on the spot in the 10.55am accident.

Maran police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said investigations revealed that the victim from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, was part of a motorcycle convoy travelling for the RXZ Fighter gathering in Kuantan.

"The accident occurred when Lokman suddenly lost control of his RXZ motorcycle and crashed into a metal barrier on the left side of the highway. The victim was part of a convoy involving 14 motorcycles.

"Checks with his friends who were part of the convoy at the crash scene revealed they were travelling from Kuala Kangsar towards Kuantan, and Lokman was the last rider travelling in the convoy," he said.

Lokman was pronounced dead by ambulance staff at the scene.

Zamri said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The two-day inaugural RXZ Fighter gathering at Serambi Teruntum in Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan, which began today is expected to draw some 40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country.
