JELI: A married couple was killed after their BMW superbike crashed into a tree along the Jeli-Dabong road here yesterday morning.
The accident claimed the lives of Saharudin Mohd Yusoff and Azilawati Jusoh, both 50.
District police chief Superintendent Saari Yaacob said the accident happened around 9.15am when the motorcycle the couple was on veered into the opposite lane and into some bushes before ramming a tree.
The couple suffered severe injuries and died while receiving treatment at the Kuala Balah health clinic.
Azilawati's brother-in-law, Mokhtar, 63, said the couple had returned for the Hari Raya festivities.
Usually, they would drive, but this time, decided to ride back to their hometown, he said.
Mokhtar said he received news of their passing while on the way to the hospital after being alerted to the accident.
The couple was buried together in one grave at the Kampung Bechah Kelubi Muslim cemetery in Pasir Mas.
Mokhtar said Azilawati was a friendly person and that the couple were fans of high-powered motorcycles.
"They did not inform us that they would be riding back to our hometown as they did not want us to worry."
