Mara will consider special quota for Orang Asli

PUTRAJAYA: The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will implement any proposals at the 2024 Bumiputera Economic Congress (KEB) should they become a resolution.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said this included a proposal to allocate a five per cent quota of Orang Asli students.

"God willing, we will discuss it as this proposal was raised during the congress. It became a resolution.

"And as an implementing agency, we are committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the grassroots," he said at KEB at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Earlier, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker and Cameron Highlands member of parliament Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor said MRSM (Mara Junior Science College) should allocate a certain quota for Orang Asli students' intake to elevate education opportunities for the group.

He suggested a five per cent quota, as well as providing more opportunities in science schools and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
