Motion to be tabled to suspend Tasek Gelugor MP for six months

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) is facing a possibility of being suspended from parliamentary proceedings for six months after accusing the prime minister of abuse of power.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to table a motion in the Dewan Rakyat at about noon today to suspend the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia member of parliament for that time period.

As stated in the Dewan Rakyat order paper today, Zahid will introduce the motion to suspend Wan Saiful after the oral question and answer session.

In the motion, Wan Saiful was also alleged to have used the name of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to influence the Dewan Rakyat.

"Tasek Gelugor has made malicious allegations against the prime minister, who is a Tambun member of parliament, even though the Speaker has repeatedly directed him not to make such statements.

"The statement made by Tasek Gelugor was a very serious allegation, violates the rights and privileges of an MP, and is an insult to this House.

"Therefore, it is agreed that Wan Saiful, Tasek Gelugor MP, shall be suspended from the services of the parliamentary proceedings for six months from the date this motion is approved," said Zahid in the motion.

It was reported that Wan Saiful made the comments during the debate on the king's speech in the Dewan Rakyat last Wednesday.

He had claimed to have been threatened to express support for Anwar's leadership. Wan Saiful had also claimed that he was contacted via phone by numerous individuals for the purpose.

His allegation had caused an uproar, forcing Wan Saiful to retract his statement on the instructions of the Dewan Rakyat speaker an Sri Johari Abdul.
