Tasek Gelugor MP urged to give evidence to his support broker claims, says Dewan Rakyat speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: Tasek Gelugor member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has been asked to furnish evidence of his claims that two Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs had tried to be "agents" for support towards the Prime Minister.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said he had read "word by word" Wan Saiful's claims in Parliament last week in the hansard, and had requested him to provide clear evidence on his allegations.

"I will deal with it one by one, we have a clear mechanism. I have read word by word in the hansard, and I have written to him to ask for facts on what he had said, with clear evidence.

"Then, I will call Gua Musang (Mohd Azizi Abu Naim) and Tanjong Karang (Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi), and if they are found guilty, both of them will be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee," he said in Dewan Rakyat today.

Johari also warned Wan Saiful that politicking in the Dewan Rakyat was against the rules and would result in severe consequences.

"The punishment this time will be heavy, because I have given multiple warnings and reminders that political issues should be debated outside, not in the Dewan Rakyat.

"The time in this honourable house should be used to discuss, negotiate and debate on issues concerning the country and its people."

Earlier, Zulkafperi had tabled a motion for Wan Saiful to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for his claims made last Thursday.

However, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Perikatan Nasional-Beluran) said the Parliament should instead investigate Wan Saiful's claims.

To this, Johari said the Dewan Rakyat was not a court of law, and was guided by the Parliament Standing Orders and the Federal Constitution.

"Any decision will be made by the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges and Committee or any other committee that I can form.

"Action will be taken against either the two MPs or Tasek Gelugor as this issue is serious, involving the dignity and credibility of the Yang Berhormat, the Prime Minister, and the Parliament," he added.

On March 21, Wan Saiful alleged that he was lured by Zulkafperi and Azizi to influence his behaviour, including the speeches to be delivered in Parliament.

Following this, he urged for the establishment of a Parliament select committee under Standing Order 80A to identify and penalise individuals who had made offers to influence the behaviour of lawmakers in the Dewan Rakyat.
