Melaka's economy soars: 8.6pc GDP growth signals prosperity in 2022

MELAKA: Melaka's economy has shown significant growth in line with the national economic trends, as evidenced by the gross domestic product (GDP) figures for the year 2022, Melaka Hari Ini reported.

Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam announced that the state's GDP reached an impressive RM45.5 billion, reflecting an 8.6 per cent increase from the previous year's RM41.9 billion.

In his speech at the opening of the Third Session of the Fifteenth Melaka State Legislative Assembly on March 5, Mohd Ali highlighted the robust economic performance.

"Melaka's per capita income was RM50,407 in 2022, up from RM44,679 the previous year," he said.

The service sector led the state's economic contributions, accounting for RM23 billion or 50.5 per cent of the economy.

Manufacturing followed as the second-highest contributor with RM16.9 billion or 37.2 per cent, with agriculture contributing RM4.5 billion or 10 per cent, and the construction sector at RM943 million or 2.1 per cent.
