More vehicle types to be included in subsidised diesel control system

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will expand the Subsidised Diesel Control System Pilot Project 2.0 (SKDS 2.0) to include more vehicle types under the land transport (goods) sector.

They include cargo trucks, bottle beverage trucks, refrigerated trucks; luton/box trucks, prime movers, flour tanker trucks, water tanker trucks, panel vans, and window vans.

The second phase is set to kickstart tomorrow (Mar 7) and will be collaborated with five oil companies.

In a statement, the ministry said it will introduce the Fleet Card as part of the effort to transition from manual methods to digital technology in monitoring subsidised goods.

"This digital method can help reduce the costs of monitoring and enforcement made physically.

"Together with the Finance Ministry, we are (also) studying the need to expand the SKDS 2.0 to other types of Goods Land Transport Sector vehicles."

The ministry added that the study will look at suitable transports for handling the risks of wastage and smuggling of subsidised diesel more efficiently.

Applications can be made in parallel with the launch through the ministry's MySubsidised Diesel System (https://mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my/).

The application requirements are as follows:(i) the company must be registered in Malaysia;

(ii) the goods vehicles must be owned by the applicant company;(iii) the goods vehicles must have valid road tax; and

(iv) the goods vehicles within the nine listed types of vehicles involved in Phase II of the Pilot Project.

Upon successful approval, the next process for the relevant Goods Land Transport Sector companies is to obtain a Fleet Card from the chosen oil company for the purchase of subsidised diesel.

In February, six logistics companies will pilot the government's targeted diesel subsidy system from today until March 31.https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/02/1008476/6-transport-firms-tes...

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Ali said the pilot project would lead to the halt of diesel being subsidised in bulk by the second quarter of this year.
