Woman who suffered 70 per cent burns in fire dies

IPOH: A woman who suffered severe burns after she and another victim were involved in a fire incident in Taman Utama, Bercham, on Feb 28, has died.

The 57-year-old woman, who suffered 70 per cent burns on her body, died while receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) at 9.48 pm.

This was confirmed by the Ipoh district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan, in a statement today.

Previously, the woman's partner, aged 64, was found dead with 90 per cent burn injuries.

On Feb 28, Yahaya said police received a distress call at 10.18 am from the public, informing that a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle and a Honda-C70 motorcycle were on fire, together with the two victims, outside a house in Bercham.

Yahaya urged all parties not to speculate and to allow time and space for the police to ensure a thorough, fair, and impartial investigation to be conducted.

He also urged the public with information regarding the matter to contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Fadli Ahmad at 019-2500019 to assist in the investigation.
