Geran Komuniti K2K to empower 50,000 public housing residents

KUALA LUMPUR: The Geran Komuniti K2K programme by Think City is designed to empower communities residing in public housing projects to improve livability and communal living areas, set to benefit 50,000 residents.

The "Kita Untuk Kita" (K2K) programme launched in April last year by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim aimed to be a public investment in social development to help communities improve their capacity to effectively tackle the challenges related to livability in public housing projects.

Think City managing director Hamdan Abdul Majeed emphasised the importance of community empowerment in public housing.

"At Think City, we firmly believe that the livability of public housing lies in the participation and contribution of its communities.

"Through the Geran Komuniti K2K, we champion a bottom-up approach, where even the smallest of efforts can create a positive ripple effect, leading to significant transformations.

"We are eager to witness the innovative solutions that will spring forth from this initiative."

Geran Komuniti K2K encourages residents to work together, foster social unity and address community challenges in public housing.

Supported by the Finance Ministry as part of the national budget, it will be implemented in 10 public housing projects in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor — PA Seri Selangor, PA Seri Sarawak, PA Hang Tuah, PPR Seri Cempaka, PA Seri Kota, PPR Taman Mulia, PA Seri Sabah 3A, PPR Desa Tun Razak, PPR Kpg Baru HICOM and PPR Lembah Subang 1.

Hamdan stressed the importance of cities being inclusive.

"Cities must be inclusive and for all. Without inclusivity, we risk creating social divides that can lead to breakdowns in society.

"This vision resonates with Malaysia's Madani Economic framework, which seeks to reshape the economy and ensure equitable rewards for citizens."

Since 2009, Think City has worked to improve cities by making them more livable, environmentally sustainable and socially resilient. They've effectively overseen urban renewal projects in several cities, such as George Town, Butterworth, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur.
