Anwar arrives in Germany for six-day official visit [NSTTV]

BERLIN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Berlin for his six-day official visit to Germany.

He was greeted upon arrival at 10.29pm (5.29am Malaysia) at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Malaysian ambassador to Germany Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin, as well as German government representatives.

Also accompanying him for his visit are International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, as well as Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

Anwar, in his first official visit to Germany and Europe as prime minister, is scheduled to attend a series of programmes involving German government leaders, representatives of major businesses as well as captains of industry.

On March 11, Anwar is scheduled to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace, Berlin.

He will then be accorded an official welcome with full military honours by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the Federal Chancellery, where the two will hold a four-eyed meeting.

Scholz will also host a dinner at the Chancellery to commemorate the visit.

In Berlin, Anwar's schedule includes a tour of the Siemens Energy plant, a business roundtable meeting with more than 30 captains of industry, as well as one-to-one sessions with key German companies.

Anwar will also meet with German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck before attending the Mittlestand, also known as SME Future Day, an annual small-medium enterprises conference where the prime minister will also be delivering a keynote address.

His schedule in Hamburg, meanwhile, includes a business meeting with Nexperia, as well attending the 101st East Asia Friendship Dinner (Ostasiatisches Liebesmahl) by the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (Ostasiatische Verein - OAV).

The prime minister will also be meeting the Malaysian diaspora in Germany, as well as join the congregation at the Sehitlik Mosque in Berlin for Isyak and Tarawih prayers as well as to engage with the German Muslim community.
