KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will relocate Year One students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Cyberjaya to several nearby schools to address the overcrowding issue.

In a statement today, the ministry said approval had also been given for the construction of 12 cabins for additional classrooms as a short-term solution in addressing the issue.

"Meanwhile, for the long-term solution, the SK Cyberjaya (2) proposed under the 12th Malaysia Plan has been approved and is currently undergoing the procurement process.

"The new school will also have 36 classrooms and other facilities designed and built to streamline the construction process. The school is expected to be completed by 2028.

"The ministry is always concerned about the wellbeing of students, teachers and all school communities nationwide, (as) humanitarian education ensures the best education for all students," the statement read.

Previously, a video depicting the overcrowded situation of Year One pupils at SK Cyberjaya made rounds on social media platforms.

Based on the video, only 13 classes were opened for the pupils, each accommodating 50 pupils for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Meanwhile, the ministry in the same statement said other plans to address the issue of school overcrowding in Cyberjaya included the construction of a new secondary school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Cyberjaya 2 which would be applied under the First Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for the year 2026, this year.

"Simultaneously, the ministry will initiate the process of acquiring land for the development of SK Cyberjaya 3, with the application planned for the Second Rolling Plan of the 13MP for 2027 in 2025."
