Govt approves RM6.1 mil to upgrade roads, traffic lights in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan state government thanked the Malaysia Madani Unity Government for approving an allocation of RM6.1 million for the maintenance and upgrading of roads and traffic lights throughout the state.

Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said the allocation was approved through the state Works Department (JKR).

The allocation under the programme to light up accident prone areas due to darkness, has increased significantly to RM6.1 million compared with the RM1 million allocated last year for the same purpose."We wish to thank the Madani government for providing a bigger allocation this year and the state government would like to register its appreciation.

"The increase in the budget allocated shows that the Malaysia Madani Unity Government is carrying out its responsibilities well and the initiative will enable the state JKR to carry out maintenance and upgrading of such facilities throughout the state," he said.Dr Izani said this when asked to comment about the damaged roads and traffic lights in the state after the opening ceremony of the Public Works Department, Kelantan State Electrical Engineering Branch Bill 1/2024 at the Dewan Bunga Teratai in Kota Darulnaim Complex, here today.

Meanwhile, Dr Izani said 40 of the 143 contractors had fulfilled the terms and conditions during the drawing of lots and all these contractors would be monitored by JKR. "We hope contractors selected will carry out their jobs, maintenance with integrity and according to the specifications and requirements as per the agreement in their respective contracts.

"The state government hope all projects awarded, worth between RM50,000 to RM200,000, can be completed in stages until July," he said.The maintenance work to be carried out is the first stage and once completed, other roads that need to be upgraded would be identified before seeking for the budget.
