Employment laws apply to all companies regardless of political affiliation, says Sim

KUALA LUMPUR: The rights of workers who are employed under companies with political affiliations must be upheld.

Human Resources Ministry Steven Sim said this includes salary payments which should not be taken lightly by any parties.

"Our stance remains firm and resolute, we have laws in our country and everyone must abide by the law regardless of who it may be, whether private or public companies.

"(And) regardless of your political party, whether you are from DAP or Pas, we (the ministry) will take action if worker's rights are violated.

"So, do not worry if you are not doing anything wrong, we will assist you," he said in minister's question time in Dewan Rakyat, today.

Sim said this in response to a supplementary question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) who asked about the government's efforts to address the alleged issue of a kindergarten Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) owned by the Islamist party Pas which neglected the welfare of its teachers.

He also advised employees to lodge a report at any labour offices for further action, as stipulated under Section 69 of the Employment Act 1955.

"Labour cases filed at any branches of the labour department will be handled by the labour court to settle financial claims by employees against employers as provided under Section 69 of the Employment Act 1955."
