More Kiulu rural folk benefit under Sabah housing initiative

TUARAN: Rural families from Kiulu near here have received new houses under the programme, Sabah Maju Jaya.

Championed by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus government, 40 households in the past two years benefited under Sabah Maju Jaya.

This year, Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said another 20 families in his state constituency would get new houses.

The GRS information chief noted that the impact of the initiative was felt all over Sabah as each state constituency was allocated 20 SMJ houses.

"SMJ is a game changer.

"Prior to the GRS-PH Plus government, the rural state constituency of Kiulu was allocated between four and five houses for the hardcore poor every year," he added, after handing over the house-keys to recipients here.

He said state assemblymen had received RM3 million from the GRS-PH Plus administration, which was a substantial rise from the RM1.5 million allocated under the previous government.

"This boost in funding helps us effectively address the pressing needs of our rural communities.

"It highlights the state government commitment to ensuring that vital assistance reaches those who need it most, while also holding assemblymen accountable for effective fund management," said Joniston.
