Mindef ready to deploy navy assets to help search missing cargo ship

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is ready to mobilise assets from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to aid the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) search for the missing cargo ship MV Dai Cat 06, if required.

The ministry said the search for the Malaysian-registered cargo ship, which was reported missing since January last year, is still being carried out by MMEA.

"The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) through RMN are not directly involved in the efforts to locate the ship."However, the ministry is prepared to deploy RMN's assets if needed to support the MMEA operations (in searching for the missing ship)," the ministry saidin a parliamentary written reply on Monday.

The ministry said this in response to Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kasim (PN-Arau) who enquired about the current status of search for the missing ship MV Dai Cat 06, which disappeared on Jan 9, 2023.

The cargo ship carrying pipes worth RM726,205 along with five crew members was believed to have disappeared in Indonesian waters. A report was lodged by the ship's agent on the same day.
