'Let me check the facts first', says Azam on 'probe' into Mahathir

CYBERJAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has declined to comment on claims of a "probe" into Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"Let me check the facts first," he told Berita Harian today in response to a Bloomberg report quoting Mahathir's sons, Tan Sri Mokhzani and Mirzan.

In the interview, Mohzani and Mirzan, who have been asked to declare their assets, said they were ordered to assist in a probe into Mahathir.

They have been asked to declare their assets to the MACC dating back to 1981 when their father became prime minister.

On Feb 6, Azam was reported as saying that Mokhzani and Mirzan can be prosecuted if they fail to declare their assets.

The brothers have asked for more time to gather the necessary information as it involves records going back 43 years.
