PM attends Iftar Madani

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended the Iftar Madani organised by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

Clad in soft blue baju Melayu, Anwar arrived at 6.57pm, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The event, held to mark Nuzul Quran, was organised in collaboration with Putrajaya Corporation.

Fourteen federal religious agencies as well as strategic partners, namely Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) and Jakim corporate dakwah secretariat took part in the event.

A total of 10,000 members of the public also attended the event.

Before breaking fast, Anwar witnessed the handover of donations to 'asnaf' representatives, Abdul Ladin Awang, Azhar Ahmad and Amran Mahmud.

The donations, totalling RM110,000, were contributed by TNB, IRB and PPZ-MAIWP.

A total of 10,000 food packs and Kampung Baru 'bubur lambuk' were prepared for the event's attendees.

Present were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and Public Service Department director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

Jakim said the objectives of the event were to foster unity within the community and provide an opportunity for government agencies to engage with the people.

The event also attracted foreign tourists to experience the breaking of fast.

After the 'buka puasa', Anwar joined the congregational Maghrib prayer.
