Claims that Padu developed using 'outdated' methods 'reckless', says official

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin has slammed claims that the Central Database Hub (Padu) was developed using outdated methods, describing such remarks as "reckless".

"The details of Padu's system and architecture are not publicly available, so claims that its development uses outdated methods are uncalled for," he said in a statement.

Uzir said Padu was not developed merely as a medium to update data but also to perform analytical functions.

"As such, Padu was developed using the best, safest, and most effective methods."

He said Padu's development was done in-house using the latest technology. He also said its development and architecture were subject to rigorous inspection.

Uzir's remarks follow Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil's dismissal of a report claiming Padu was developed using outdated methods.

Fahmi, who is the government's spokesman, said the database, jointly developed by the Economy Ministry and the Statistics Department, was crafted with input and advice from various cybersecurity stakeholders.

Earlier, a cybersecurity expert claimed in an FMT report that Padu was developed using outdated methods that could compromise the data integrity.
