Fadhlina's aide lodges report over threats following edited clip on 'kafir' ban

KUALA LUMPUR: An aide to Fadhlina Sidek has lodged a police report over safety threats against the Education Minister, who is also the Nibong Tebal member of Parliament.

In a posting on her Facebook account, Fadhlina shared the photo of the police report, which was lodged by her political secretary 'Atiqah Syairah Shaharuddin, in Kuching, Sarawak.

"Something happened today. Hate speech, false accusations, and even threats to safety were received online. A police report has been lodged for safety reasons," she said in the post.

Upon the advice of her legal team, Fadhlina said all evidence from posts, comments, and personal messages across various social media platforms are being gathered, and legal action will be taken.

"Some may have acted intentionally, while others may have acted out of ignorance. Allah knows best."

In the police report, her aide said the report was lodged due to safety concerns following a surge in online attacks against the minister.

'Atiqah said she received a few photos of the minister edited with the text "perkataan kafir pun saya haramkan di rumah. Saya tak ajar anak saya sebut kafir di rumah-anak sidek-" (I banned the word infidel at home. I never taught my children to say the word infidel).

She said the photo was widely shared on Facebook.

"It has caused Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to receive negative comments from the netizens. I'm concerned about her safety as this issue will become 3R (race, religion and royalty).

"This report is for the police to take further action to prevent undesirable issues from happening in the future."

Earlier, a video went viral showing Fadhlina rejecting the use of 'kafir' and prohibiting her children from using that word at home.

The spread of this video has led to Fadhlina receiving various negative reactions from netizens, even to the extent of threatening her safety.
