MCA veep raises concern about Padu security, data leakages and possible hacking

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA vice-president Datuk Sri Dr Wee Jeck Seng has raised security concerns about the risk of data leakages and identity theft by hackers following the end of the deadline for automatic Padu registration.

This was following Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Uzir Mahidin's confirmation that individuals who did not register in the alloted period will be automatically entered into the system.

"Yesterday, as the deadline for registrations for Padu came to an end, 10.8 million Malaysians have signed up," Wee said

"This latest announcement has really treated the common folks, who queued up to register for Padu after being given the impression that registration was compulsory, as a joke.

"Meanwhile, the other two-thirds of the population who did not register now have an added worry as to whether their personal information might be leaked or stolen."

Earlier, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said that 17.65 million Malaysians had successfully updated their details in Padu where 11.55 million were citizens above the age of 18.

Following that, Uzir expressed his gratitude through Facebook to those who ensured the smooth completion of the registration process before the March 31 deadline.
