MACC vows to fully implement King's anti-corruption decree

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has pledged to ensure that the decree of Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia to combat corruption is fully implemented.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the decree by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, reflects his firmness in combating the threat of corruption and should be upheld by every layer of society because a corruption-free populace serves as the yardstick and core of the nation's integrity and stability.

"The MACC extends its gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who has decreed that combating corruption as the nation's number one enemy is among the main focuses of his reign," Azam in a statement said.

As the enforcement agency entrusted with combating corruption in this country, Azam said the commission pledged to ensure that His Majesty's decree is fully implemented and will carry out this responsibility with utmost integrity.

"The MACC also hopes that all Malaysians, especially the entire government machinery, without compromise, can stand shoulder to shoulder with the MACC in upholding and implementing the decree of His Majesty," he said.

In a Facebook posting yesterday, His Majesty has pointed out that corruption remains the biggest threat to the country.

Fighting corruption, His Majesty said would be a priority during his reign.

"As I have said before this. My honeymoon is over, now go catch the bees," he said after receiving an update on developments in MACC.

His Majesty also presented Azam with a jar of honey as a symbol of the end of his "honeymoon" after ascending to the throne.

Last month, Sultan Ibrahim said he was ready to implement his true style of rule after the end of the "honeymoon" period.

Before ascending to the throne, Sultan Ibrahim warned that he would come down hard on corruption, saying he would "hunt all the corrupt people".
