Temerloh to host country's longest iftar line on April 6

TEMERLOH: Four months after getting into the 'Malaysia Book Of Records', the Temerloh Municipal Council is eyeing another feat by organising the country's longest iftar (breaking of fast) line.

The 1.1km breaking-of-fast event will be held between Esplanade1 and Esplanade 2, which runs parallel to Sungai Pahang, on April 6.

Council president Suris Mihat said the Esplanade was a top choice for people to break their fast in the district and was crowded during Ramadan.

"Due to the huge turnout, with people occupying the pavement and road to break their fast, the council is attempting to get into the record books.

"The iftar line could reach 1.14km, but it depends on the real-time final check conducted by MBOR representatives on Saturday.

"The proposed iftar line will be along the pavement and tarred road next to Sungai Pahang.

"We expect the stretch along Esplanade 1 and Esplanade 2 to accommodate about 3,000 people," he said when contacted today.

Suris said to mark the occasion, the council had arranged for lucky-draw prizes to be given away and for bubur lambuk to be distributed to people.

Meanwhile, he said the record-breaking attempt was among the measures adopted by the council to promote the district, which is popular for freshwater ikan patin (silver catfish) dishes.

"The district has many attractions and the council is trying to highlight them.

"Last year, Pekan Sehari Temerloh was named the longest outdoor morning market in the country. We hope to achieve another milestone on April 6."

On Dec 17 last year, the decades-old Pekan Sehari Temerloh in Lurah Semantan here was inducted into the MBOR for being the longest morning market with the biggest number of traders stretching 2.1km long, the market has about 600 hawkers.
