Pahang MB: 103 water supply projects completed across the state

KUANTAN: Pengurusan Air Pahang Bhd (Paip) has completed 103 projects listed under the Pahang State Water Supply Project plan 2021-2026 (Phase 1) with a cost of RM121.2 million.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said 32 projects worth RM461 million were in the midst of implementation, with the letter of acceptance being handed to the appointed contractors to execute their jobs.

"To date, 82 projects with a cost of RM1.91 billion are in the pre-construction phase. All these projects are in line with the state government's aspiration to solve 90 per cent of Pahang's water supply issues by 2026.

Let's hope that everything goes smoothly," he said at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting in Wisma Sri Pahang here today.

He was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Shafik Fauzan Sharif (BN-Inderapura) on Paip's financial status and whether it was sufficient to improve and upgrade water supply in the state.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said Paip, for the first time since it was privatised, had registered a net profit for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2023.

He said the effort did not happen in the blink of an eye, and that it was attributed to good governance over the years.

"We hope the strong financial standing will give confidence to Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) to provide allocations to Paip to replace the ageing pipes and upgrade the water treatment plants. The ageing asbestos cement pipes are being replaced with the more durable mild steel cement lining piping across the state.

"I hope all quarters will support Paip's achievement and not continuously criticise it. Paip has been doing a lot to repair and upgrade the pipes, but some, including those on the other side (the opposition), continue to 'bash' it as though it has not done anything," he said.
