SHAH ALAM: Police have recorded a statement from a man who was caught on CCTV bringing a suitcase containing RM500,000, which was found at a shopping mall in Damansara.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man is from the same timber company as the director who had last week claimed ownership of the suitcase.
"We have recorded the statement of the claimant and will be calling in more witnesses to investigate his claim.
"We have also called in the man, who was caught on CCTV, for questioning. The man is a member of the same company as the claimant," he said at a press conference after launching a Hari Raya Aidilfitri road safety campaign here today.
Hussein said they have also identified seven sets of fingerprints on the bag and will conduct further investigations.
"We will look into the source of the money. Once we are satisfied that the money is indeed from the claimant, then we will return the suitcase," he said adding that the investigation paper would also be forwarded to the deputy public prosecutor.
Earlier today, NST reported that the police will call three more witnesses to assist in investigations.
Previously, the director who claimed the suitcase said he was unaware that the money, which had been taken from his friend's apartment unit above the shopping mall, was not placed in his vehicle.
The man claimed the suitcase was taken from his friend's house, who wanted to return the money after borrowing it last year for investment purposes.
On March 20, a security guard found a pink-and-white luggage bag filled with over half a million ringgit, which was left at a shopping mall's parking lot.
The bag, containing RM100, RM50, and RM10 notes, was then handed over to the police by the mall's security guard.
