Former deputy prime minister's son summoned by police over blog post

KUALA LUMPUR: The son of former deputy prime minister Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba, Datuk Tamrin Ghafar has been summoned by police over a blog post he posted, on his predictions on the country's leadership and the state of Malay politics in the next 10 years.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, the 74-year old former member of Parliament said he received a telephone call on Monday afternoon regarding a police investigation involving the April 4 post.

"I received a call from the police saying a report was lodged against my latest blog post titled '10 tahun lagi, DAP akan jadi Tuan'," he said.

He said an officer rang him up yesterday and introduced himself as an officer from Bukit Aman's Classified Crimes Investigations Unit (USJT) seeking his cooperation over an investigation related to the blog.

"He asked me when I could come to give my statement. Since it's Raya, I suggested some time next week, maybe on the 8th or 9th day of Raya, possibly. But I have decided to go on Apr 16 ," he said.

Tamrin is set to meet with the investigators at Bukit Aman at 10.30am on Tuesday.

" I have no issue cooperating with the investigation team. Moreover this is not the first time I've been summoned by the police over my writings," said the former Batu Berendam MP.

He also insisted that he has not done anything wrong under the law and only shared his predictions via the post.

" I just shared my thoughts of the future, based on what is going on at present between the parties. With Malays squabbling among themselves on who is to be the prime minister and the disarray associated, my prediction may not be far from sight," he said.
