New RM30.8 mil road to enhance accessibility in Igan

IGAN: Residents of Kampung Igan are set to benefit from a new road construction project estimated at RM30.8 million, aimed at improving access around the local schools, SMK Agama Igan and SK Igan, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

This initiative is expected to accommodate the increasing traffic demands anticipated with the completion of the Igan Bridge, currently at 65 per cent completion.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya shared details of the project, which is poised to become a vital artery once the Igan Bridge is fully operational.

Juanda also announced the commencement of phase 3 of the riverbank connectivity project from Kampung Baru Dagang to the Igan Health Clinic, executed by the Mukah Division Irrigation and Drainage Department.

"The funds have been allocated, and I have made several visits to ensure that these projects are implemented promptly," Juanda said during the 'Belangger Mija' festival at Kampung Baru Dagang Igan Matu on April 15.

He also highlighted a RM1.5 million protocol road project that will serve as the main VIP route into Kampung Igan and disclosed a request for a RM10 million redevelopment of the Igan market and Entrepreneurial Platform, pending approval from Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Juanda said that he had proposed an additional RM25 million for the second phase of the Kaul Igan site development under the Rajang Delta Development Agency. Additionally, a new RM10 million stadium, located opposite the Igan Agriculture Station, has been approved to provide recreational facilities to the community.

"The tender for the land work opposite the Igan Mosque has closed, awaiting award and subsequent execution," Juanda added.
