Smooth progress on the construction of Sebuyau's secondary trunk road

SEBUYAU: The construction of the Secondary Trunk Road (STR) in the Sebuyau area is progressing smoothly and on schedule, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

This was confirmed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during his visit to the three STR road packages in the region on Feb 14.

The Deputy Premier outlined the details of the three packages involved in the project: the road from Batang Samarahan to Batang Sadong, the main bridge project known as Batang Samarahan Bridge, and the road from Batang Sadong to Sebuyau Bridge.

The Batang Samarahan to Batang Sadong road project, costing a total of RM530 million, is expected to be fully completed by Feb 2027.

"This road will include a dual-carriageway with four lanes over a distance of 13.7 kilometres," he said.

Additionally, the road from Batang Sadong to the Sebuyau Bridge spans 28 kilometres, with expenditure estimated at RM525 million.

"This segment will feature an 800-metre viaduct crossing Sedilu National Park, and we anticipate this package will be completed by April 2028," he added.

The visit aimed to ensure that the appointed contractors were present at the project sites and engaged in construction activities within a month as pledged in the state's 'A Month's Promise' initiative by the Public Works Department (JKR).

Amar Douglas, who also serves as the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, emphasised JKR's authority to terminate contracts if the parties fail to commit or adhere to their pledge in executing the project.

However, he assured that the performance of the contractors appointed for these three mega-project packages is satisfactory, demonstrating a high level of commitment.
