Lumut helicopter crash: Bodies to be brought to Ipoh Hospital for post-mortem

KUALA LUMPUR: The 10 victims of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) helicopter midair collision earlier today will be brought to Ipoh Hospital, Perak for a post-mortem.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Norden said funeral arrangements would be made by the respective families.

"The doctors in Hospital Angkatan Tentera Pangkalan TLDM, Lumut, had done their part well and the bodies were sent to Hospital Ipoh for a post-mortem.

"The funeral will be arranged by the families. Not all of the victims will be buried here," he said at a press conference at the RMN base in Lumut, Perak.

He said nine of the victims were under 40 years-old while one was 41 years-old.

He added that the ministry would also deliver the necessary aid to the victim's next ofA kin.

Earlier today, two RMN helicopters collided mid-air and crashed over the naval base in Lumut, Perak, while rehearsing flypast for the RMN 90th anniversary celebration.

An AugustaWestland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) crashed in the Navy Stadium while the Eurocopter AS550 Fennec crashed near the pool of the Navy Sports Complex.

The RMN has established an investigation board to look into the incident
