Kuala Krai crash victim died one day before 41st birthday

KUALA KRAI: One of the four victims killed in a crash at Km17 of Jalan Kuala Krai-Gua Musang would have celebrated his birthday tomorrow.

Kamzirey Mat Jizi, 48, said his youngest brother Mohamad Anif would have turned 41, and like in previous years, he would not have asked his family to organise a birthday party.

"My brother was very humble. He was so kind and he did not like to trouble others. He did not mind if the family did not buy a birthday cake or hold a celebration for him.

"His death really shocked us as he seemed fine when I last saw him on Friday night," said Kamzirey at the Kuala Krai Hospital mortuary today.

He said Anif was on his way back to his home in Kampung Pangkal Petai in Machang when the crash occurred.

"As a farmer, it was routine for him and his friends to travel to Perak to buy machines for work.

"He would travel to Perak with his best friends several times a month to get supplies and would return soon after buying the machines."

Anif's eldest son, Mohamad Afiq, said his family was informed about the incident about 2am.

"My mother, Siti Fatimah Hassan, received a call from a family member informing her that my father and his two friends were involved in an accident."

"We immediately rushed to the hospital to claim his body," he said.

Afiq, who was with his brother Mohamad Aqiq Aqiqi, said his father's remains would be buried at a cemetery in Kampung Simpul this evening.

District police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said a Toyota Hilux driven by a 37-year-old man was travelling with three passengers from Perak to Machang when the crash occurred near Bukit Ah Kim.

"Initial investigation showed that the driver lost control of his car, causing it to skid to the other lane and collide with the Ford Ranger travelling from the opposite direction.

"The collision resulted in three people dying instantly, while another succumbed to injuries about 1.50am while receiving treatment at Kuala Krai Hospital," he said.

He said the incident also caused four other passengers to suffer injuries.
