'MACC probe into Perlis MB's son won't affect Pas campaign in KKB polls'

KANGAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation into the Perlis menteri besar's son over false claims will not affect Perikatan Nasional's (PN) campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said late Pas leader Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was also investigated by MACC in 2009 when he was Kelantan menteri besar over an umrah sponsorship involving a businessman.

"PN leaders are ready for any investigation. If there is a strong case, then proceed to court," he said at Pas' national-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Dewan 2020 here today.

Takiyuddin hoped MACC would continue to act without fear or favour in the investigation.

"MACC has to be professional, acting without fear or favour, whether it is corruption in the government or other parties. There should not be double standards."

On Wednesday, it was reported that MACC detained a son of Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and five others to assist in a false claims case involving RM600,000.

The false claims allegedly involved repairs, maintenance, supplies and services for infrastructure development projects in Perlis since 2022.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also said the investigation would not affect the KKB by-election.

"I support the Perlis menteri besar's statement saying that he is ready to be investigated by MACC and that one is not guilty until proven guilty in court.

"This case touches on Pas' integrity. We will be professional. The menteri besar has made it clear that his office is ready to be probed," he said at the open house.

Present were Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Shukri, who is also Perlis Pas commissioner, and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
