Ministry targets year-end completion for child rights action plans

KUALA LUMPUR: Two action plans which will further bolster child rights in the country will be ready by the end of the year, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said today.

The two plans; National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) 2.0 and the Business and Human Rights Action Plan signify the government's unwavering commitment to safeguard and promote the rights of all children in society, she said in a statement.

"With children as a central focus, the NHRAP 2.0 aims to prioritise the best interest of the child by outlining potential strategic governmental measures across various sectors," Azalina said.

"Concurrently, the Business and Human Rights Action Plan targets the intersectionality of child rights within corporate practices, striving to

integrate ethical standards that uphold children's rights"

Azalina issued the statement following the closing of the inaugural International Symposium on Empowerment of Children's Commissions: Strengthening Rights and Safeguarding Futures organised by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department, in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission of

Malaysia (Suhakam), UNICEF Malaysia, and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia today .

The two-day event gathered over 10 Children Commissioners and child rights advocates from Australia, Jamaica, Scotland and the Philippines.

A total of 55 children aged 10 to 17, represented diverse communities including those with disabilities, from East Malaysia, lower-income backgrounds, stateless and

refugee communities, and shelter homes to also attend the event.
